Elias Pettersson, C
One of the most commonly linked names in various rumors and trade discussions in this past few months with the Kings is Vancouver Canucks center, Elias Pettersson.
There have been various rumors and reports in this past few months connecting the Kings to trade discussions with the Canucks involving Pettersson. While recent rumors and reporting surrounding Pettersson don't suggest a trade is coming very soon this offseason, this is still something worth monitoring during the upcoming season.
If the Canucks are struggling in the standings in the Pacific Division and/or Pettersson doesn't have a good relationship with the organization, Holland and the Kings should at least by able to check in on his status on the trade block.
The concern surrounding Pettersson is twofold. How much would the Canucks want in return for Pettersson on the trade block? Even though Pettersson hasn't produced at the same level offensively in this past couple of seasons as he did earlier in his NHL career, Vancouver could still demand a big return if the Canucks ultimately decide to move him.
Also, there is the issue of the Kings lack of cap flexibility going into the upcoming season. Pettersson is owed north of $11 million in average annual value through the end of the 2031-32 season.
I don't believe that it would be wise for the Kings to try and force a trade with the Canucks for Pettersson before the season begins. But the team also shouldn't be completely closed off to the possibility of kicking the tires on trading for him if Vancouver eventually becomes more interested in moving him.
