Trade #3: LA Kings add another young goalie in Calle Clang for Jonathan Quick
If the LA Kings are hellbent on adding another goalie to the pipeline, then I’d go with 18-year-old Calle Clang over 29-year-old Casey DeSmith. Taken in the third round of last year’s draft, Clang stands at 6-foot-2, 176 pounds.
Here was Elite Prospects’ scouting report of Clang:
“He plays from his goal line out, rarely getting caught stranded too far from his crease and is difficult to beat around the posts or down low. He’s got a great read of the game and doesn’t seem to struggle with adapting to a stronger pace of play. He also recovers well when he does allow a tough goal.”
Hailing from Olofström, Sweden, Clang is ranked as the fifth-best prospect in the Penguins’ pool. He’s currently on loan to Kristianstads of Sweden’s second-tier hockey league, HockeyAllsvenskan, and has posted a 2.32 GAA and .922 SV% through 23 games.
I also have the Penguins’ sweetening the deal, adding a third-round pick in 2022.
