LA Kings: Late comeback comes up short, fall to Avalanche 3-2

The LA Kings hosted the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night β€” the first of a two-game set. Second-period penalties continued to plague Los Angeles, leading to two Avalanche goals. The Kings attempted a late comeback, scoring two in the third but fell short of forcing overtime.

1st Period

Brandon Saad got the visitors on the board first, putting a rebound past LA Kings netminder Cal Petersen.

2nd Period

Initially called a goal on the ice, a review determined no goal via incidental contact. The score remained at 1-0.

Later in the period, the LA Kings surrendered their first power play goal on the year.

And the Avs would get another power play goal. Mikko Rantanen this time.

3rd Period

Los Angeles got on the board via Andreas Athanasiouβ€˜s third goal of the year.

Adrian Kempe also tallied his first of the year β€” a power play goal.
