We learned in the offseason that the LA Kings will, in fact, be getting a new 3rd jersey. We haven’t been given any hint on what it could be, so, it’s time to speculate!

The LA Kings 3rd jerseys have been… interesting to say the least. I honestly feel that the sense of Regality in the color purple has always been good for the LA Kings, however, they won the cup in black and white so we probably won’t see a big change in that anytime soon.

There are a couple possibilities the LA Kings could option without going completely going off the board. So without further ado, let’s get this list started!

  1. 50th Anniversary Jersey:

It seems like we just hung these “limited time” jerseys up last season. It’s a decent jersey but has definitely seen enough time. It adds grey to an already boring color scheme of black and white.

It also seems like a bad pick since most, if not all, NHL teams are leaning more towards a retro look (See Anaheim’s new 3rd jersey) and with the way the LA Kings seem to love to celebrate the past with legends nights this jersey just doesn’t seem to make a strong case for itself.

  1. Throwback 1967 Jersey (Gold):

The second version of the full-on retro LA Kings jersey that was introduced in 2010. This is the Luke Hemsworth of the LA Kings third jerseys. Yes, he’s a Hemsworth, no not either of them though.

The gold jersey has always been difficult to pull off whether you’re the LA Kings, Boston Bruins, or the Nashville Predators. Some may like this as a third jersey but it really is an eyesore.

The LA Kings could pick this jersey and it wouldn’t be difficult to see them making that move. They hung these threads up 2 years ago and are the most recent true third jersey.

  1. Burger King Jersey:

If the LA Kings want to make a statement this season that they have changed from recent years, they will pick the Burger King Jersey. It would make sense, this jersey was Gretzky era black and white threads.

This jersey is still sold in the Team LA Store at Staples Center with GM Rob Blake’s name sewn into the back of this.

This jersey fits the vintage/nostalgic feel that the NHL has with most teams third, if not primary, jerseys. You could see the LA Kings strutting these bad boys as soon as October.

  1. Home Jersey (2008):

Let us not forget the times of the LA Kings primary jersey becoming their third jersey and vice versa. These Jerseys were worn through some of the darker years in the LA Kings history but is still sleek and embodies what the LA Kings were.

The strong presence of purple on the shoulders hinting at the regalness of the KINGS, the best logo this franchise has ever seen, and the “Los Angeles” at the bottom of the jersey it’s a classic and truly underrated when it comes to the LA Kings jersey history.

Whether it’s the 2008 version or the pre-reebok version with the purple stripe at the bottom you couldn’t go wrong with these jerseys though I’m not sure many people would be excited to purchase them and that’s why this may not be the choice.

  1. Throwback 1967 Jersey (Forum Blue):

Fitting with the retro feel still is the ol’ reliable Forum Blue. This is the best LA Kings jersey of ALL TIME. It’s classic yet it looked great when updated into the Reebok mold and Adidas has an opportunity to make it even better.

I’m a jersey nerd so I salivate at seeing the Forum Blue shoulders with the Gold collar becoming Forum Blue again where the NHL logo is printed.

These jerseys would be a joy to see again. When the “AdiZero” jerseys were announced I was 100% hoping that the Kings would be wearing the Forum Blue and Gold for 82 games but it was not to be.

I think it’s very very likely that these become the LA Kings third jersey again as they continue Legend’s Nights it just fits their identity while exhibiting some color back into their jersey line up.
