Kings Prospect Patrik Bartosak charged in domestic assault
Los Angeles Kings prospect goaltender Patrik Bartosak was charged with 12 domestic-related assault charges after an incident Monday afternoon with his girlfriend according to a number of sources.
Bartosak, 22, is facing a felony second degree assault charge, seven domestic simple assault charges, and three criminal threatening charges from the alleged incident according to L.A. Kings Insider Jon Rosen.
The incident occurred while Bartosak was playing with the ECHL’s Manchester Monarchs on a conditioning stint according to New Hampshire Union Leader. Also according to the Union Leader newspaper, a hearing date was set for December 16 for Bartosak because no plea can be entered to a felony charge in circuit court.
A statement from the L.A. Kings on Tuesday said, “This is a very serious matter and these allegations represent a type of behavior we do not stand for. We will continue to gather information and comment further when appropriate.”
Bartosak, a native of the Czech Republic, has yet to appear in a game this season with the AHL’s Ontario Reign. The 2013 5th-round draft pick was the favourite to take on the team’s starting goalie role before he suffered a thumb injury that required surgery ahead of the season opener.
The incident is yet another in the Kings organization in which a number of players found themselves in trouble with the law over the past year. Former defenseman Slava Voynov was arrested for domestic violence in 2014 before leaving the U.S. to go back to Russia. Former centers Jarrett Stoll and Mike Richards both made headlines this past summer for alleged possession of controlled substances.
Last season as a rookie in the AHL, Bartosak posted a 13-8-5 record with a 2.14 goals-against average, .919 save percentage and 2 shutouts.
