In just his fourth season in the NHL, Gretzky blew away the previous record of 76-goals in one season. Seriously, he blew it to pieces and then blew those pieces to even smaller pieces. At the end of that season Gretzky would have a point total of 212 points. There are NHL regulars that will never get any where close to that total in their career.
