The LA Kings reportedly had multiple scouts in attendance this past month a couple of weeks ago in mid-December for a Blackhawks-Maple Leafs game, looking for a scoring winger position for the trade deadline for 2026 this season.

It has been well known in the past few months this fall that the Los Angeles Kings and new general manager Ken Holland have been active in the market on the trade block for a top-six scoring forward. Head coach Jim Hiller and the Kings rank 31st in the league this regular season in goals scored and last in the NHL in power play conversion percentage on special teams (14.4 percent).

Possible trade targets to watch from the Blackhawks in Chicago for the Los Angeles Kings for the trade deadline this season

Getting more veteran scoring help and goal scoring offensively on special teams on the power play on the 5-on-4 man advantage could be very impactful for Holland and the Kings in the West.

The Fourth Period recently reported in December that the Kings had multiple scouts attending a Blackhawks-Toronto Maple Leafs game in the West a few weeks ago this past month in mid-December.

The Blackhawks could have multiple depth and scoring wingers who could be potential trade targets at the deadline on the block for the Kings to add more scoring punch to the top-nine forward lines core up front.

Here are two early Blackhawks players the Kings could potentially target on the trade block in the coming weeks and months before the deadline.

Nick Foligno, W

In the final year of his current contract with the Blackhawks in the Windy City, veteran forward Nick Foligno might want to find a new team in the West if he wants to play for a spot in the postseason as a contender this year this regular season. Foligno, the Blackhawks captain at the winger position, could be moved if he really wants to contender this postseason in the playoffs.

That said, Foligno is the Blackhawks' current captain and he might want to stick around in Chicago for another few years in the Windy City with the franchise.

Foligno has a wealth of regular season and playoff experience in the league in the NHL. He's scored double-digit goals in the league for the past three straight seasons.

Ilya Mikheyev, W/F

Seventh-year 31-year-old forward Ilya Mikheyev is set to be an unrestricted free agent for the Blackhawks in the West after the conclusion of the current 2025-26 season. Mikheyev is in the final year of his current contract with the Blackhawks in Chicago this regular season in 2025-26.

Mikheyev is a two-time 20-goal scorer in the West. He posted 20 goals and 34 total points for the Blackhawks in the West this past regular season.

Not only can Mikheyev contribute offensively, scoring the puck for the Kings, but he could also make an impact on special teams on the penalty kill and on the power play top two units this regular season in the West. He could bring valuable scoring and depth on special teams for the Kings this regular season.
