Dud: Andrei Kuzmenko, W
This past week, forward Andrei Kuzmenko broke his pointless and goalless streak for the Kings against the New Jersey Devils over the weekend. Kuzmenko scored his first goal in four games and third of the regular season this fall, this past weekend against the Devils.
I was hoping that Kuzmenko's goal that he scored this past Saturday night vs. New Jersey at Crypto Arena would've sparked something for him in the offensive zone last night vs. Winnipeg.
Moving Kuzmenko to the second power play unit on special teams worked out pretty well for the Kings. Fiala's third-period goal on the power play with the top unit for Hiller and staff snapped the Kings' five-game scoreless streak on special teams yesterday.
"The first one is we win the special teams battle. When we went up to Winnipeg I thought it was a similar game, it was an even game, we lose the special teams battle and we lose the game. Tonight, we win the special teams battle so that was important to win it. Our power play wasn’t great at 5-on-4, at 5-on-3 we had some really good looks that Hellebuyck saved, but I thought our penalty kill was the best that it’s been tonight."Jim Hiller on the PP
Hiller saw noticeable improvement, but he is still looking for more from the power play unit on special teams in advantageous situations on home ice this season.
I thought Kuzmenko had his chances to put the puck in the net yesterday. Kuzmenko was one of only three Kings forwards who registered at least three scoring chances and one high-danger scoring chances last night.
