The success on the East road trip this week and this weekend for the Los Angeles Kings (23-17-13) has improved the team's record on Saturday afternoon to 3-1-0 through four games this past week, including a 3-2 overtime win on Jan. 31 vs. the Philadelphia Flyers (24-20-10).
Adrian Kempe delivers multiple goals in a clutch 3-2 overtime win over the Flyers on the road in the front end of back-to-back games on Saturday
Jim Hiller and the Kings set the tone offensively, scoring the puck in the zone early in this game in the opening frame in the first period vs. Philly just a few minutes into the game on the scoreboard. Adrian Kempe scored the game's first goal in the opening frame in the first period for the Kings roughly three minutes into the game this morning.
The Kings doubled the lead on the scoreboard later in the opening frame in the first period. Kempe scored the game's second goal and the second goal of the opening frame this morning, putting the Kings up by two goals within the game's first 20 minutes.
The Flyers responded with a goal of their own less than a minute into the middle frame in the second period today in Philly. Trevor Zegras scored the game's first goal for Philly in the middle frame today.
It didn't take long in the third period in the final frame for the Flyers to tie the game up on the scoreboard. Philly scored just 25 seconds into the final frame in the third period, on a goal by forward Travis Konecny against Kings' goalie Darcy Kuemper to tie the score up 2-2 on the scoreboard.
Quinton Byfield sniped the Flyers goalie a few minutes into extra time in overtime to give the Kings the clutch 3-2 win over Philly on the road this morning, getting two points in the standings in the West in the front end of back-to-back games.
Here are two studs and one dud from the Kings' overtime 3-2 win over the Flyers on the road in Philly in the East in the front end of back-to-back games this weekend on Jan. 31.
Stud: Quinton Byfield, C
After the Kings blew a 2-0 lead on the scoreboard in the final frame in the third period in clutch time today on the road against Philly, Byfield save LA and Hiller from suffering another loss after leading by multiple goals in the second period in the West this regular season.
Byfield helped to right the ship today for the Kings after a tough three-goal loss on the road vs. the Buffalo Sabers earlier this week, this past Thursday night at KeyBank Center in upstate New York.
The winning goal in overtime scored by Byfield a few minutes into extra time this morning vs. the Flyers on the road in Philly was a really nice shot placement above the shoulder of Flyers' goalie Dan Vladar to win the game by a score of 3-2.

This is the type of play that Kings fans have wanted to see from Byfield offensively in the zone for this entire regular season in the West in the past few months.
I would also be remiss if I didn't mention Byfield's success in the faceoff circle, along with winger Alex Laferriere, this morning on the road vs. Philly. Byfield won over 70 percent of his faceoff attempts, including multiple defensive-zone faceoffs in the final frame in clutch time in the third period today.
