It wasn't pretty, but the Los Angeles Kings (11-6-6) and defenseman Brandt Clarke got the job done on home ice at Crypto Arena on Monday night (Nov. 24) against the Ottawa Senators (11-7-4). The Kings and head coach Jim Hiller fought through a tight game in the contest's first 40 minutes in the first two frames on Monday to pull out the late one-goal victory over Ottawa vs. the Senators.

Late-third period goal from Brandt Clarke on the power play helps the Los Angeles Kings defeat the Ottawa Senators on home ice

Over five minutes into the third period was the first time that either team scored a goal to get a tally up on the scoreboard on Monday between the Kings and Senators. Warren Foegele finally broke the tie on the scoreboard in the game's third period to give the Kings the lead in the final frame, 1-0.

But the Senators quickly responded with a goal from Fabian Zetterlund roughly halfway into the final frame in the third period.

It didn't take long for the Kings to take the lead back and take control of the game on the scoreboard and on the ice for good. Clarke netted the game-winning goal for the Kings in the third period in clutch time on the power play unit.

Yesterday was the second time this regular season that Clarke has scored the game-winning goal in the West for the Kings this fall. It is also the third time that he's either scored a game-winning goal or a game-tying goal in the third period this regular season for the Kings this fall.

The Kings now have two wins on home ice at Crypto.com Arena this regular season after defeating the Senators from Ottawa on Monday.

Here are two studs and one dud from the Kings' narrow 2-1 win over the Senators at home at Crypto Arena on Nov. 24.

Stud: Brandt Clarke, D

The late-power play goal in clutch time in the third period from Clarke saved the game for the Kings yesterday in the final frame against the Senators at home. It seemed like the Senators had the momentum on the scoreboard and on the ice late in the third period when Clarke converted on a screen shot from the point for the Kings.

"I don’t know that we were particularly sharp, they killed really well, but it only takes one good play, right? Sometimes it comes at the very end. So a really, really good play on the entry, Clarkie unloads and here we are, happy."

Clarke scored late on the power play on special teams for the Kings when there were just a few seconds remaining in the box for the Senators player in the third period.

I think Clarke proved why he should be in consideration for the Kings' unit on the power play on special teams to take the top point spot on defense on the blue line this season. Had it not been for Clarke scoring the game-winning goal in the final seconds of the game's last power play on special teams for the Kings, this would have been another disaster for this unit for LA vs. Ottawa yesterday.
