The Los Angeles Kings (21-16-13) and head coach Jim Hiller picked up two incredibly important points from a win in the standings in the West in the Pacific Division yesterday night on the road with a big 5-4 shootout win over the St. Louis Blues (19-24-9) in Missouri on Jan. 24.
Trevor Moore returns to deliver a game-winning goal for the Los Angeles Kings vs. St. Louis on Saturday night this weekend
Beginning a season-long road trip in the West for six games this upcoming week, the Kings grinded out two key points in the standings in the Pacific Division this regular season to extend the team's point streak in the West to five games.
After jumping out to an early 2-0 lead on the scoreboard in the opening frame in the first period to set the tone with momentum on the ice vs. St. Louis on the road, the Blues pushed back to tie things up in the middle frame. The Kings got big goals in the middle frame and in the final frame in clutch time in the third period yesterday from Alex Laferriere and Trevor Moore.
Hiller and the Kings struggled to hold on to leads in the second period in the middle frame yesterday and in clutch time in the final frame vs. St. Louis on the road. Setting the tone on this road trip for six games this upcoming week with two points in the standings was huge for the Kings and Hiller this regular season.
Darcy Kuemper and Adrian Kempe set the tone with a good start to the shootout in the 5-4 victory yesterday for the win vs. the Blues, with a goal and a couple of clutch stops in net vs. St. Louis on the ice. The Kings got the game-winning shootout goal from Moore in his first game back with the team yesterday.
Here are two studs and one dud from the Kings crucial 5-4 shootout win in the West over the Blues on the road on Jan. 24 to start a season-long six-game road trip this upcoming week.
Stud: Alex Laferriere, F
When the Kings and Hiller have needed some big points and goals in clutch time in the second and third periods this regular season on the road and in the Western Conference, Laferriere has come through multiple times offensively for LA for the team. Laferriere helped get the Kings momentum back on the ice and on the scoreboard in the middle frame in the second period yesterday on the road vs. St. Louis in the West.

Laferriere scored the game-tying goal on the scoreboard at the time in the middle frame in the second period yesterday vs. the Blues on the road in St. Louis. He helped to give the Kings a lot of important momentum on the scoreboard going into the final frame in the third period for the second intermission yesterday.
He scored on a nice play offensively by veteran forward Corey Perry, and he got the puck past the Blues goalie, who wasn't fully set in the crease moving across.
"Resilient from our group, I thought. Giving up three goals in the second there and then being able to bounce back like that was huge. You look at our group, you look at Mooresie, the way he came back tonight was huge for us, he played unbelievable all night and was able to get a huge goal for us. I think that just goes to show the identity of our team and that everyone’s ready to go every single night."Alex Laferriere
Yesterday's game on the road vs. St. Louis at the Enterprise Center vs. the Blues in the West was a big game for the Kings to get Laferriere scoring the puck again offensively in the zone for the team. He registered a goal and at least one point on the stat sheet for the first time in seven games in the West yesterday vs. St. Louis on the road vs. the Blues (since Jan. 10 vs. Edmonton on the road).
