A huge showdown proved that the Los Angeles Kings (19-15-10) can play up to the best of the competition in the Western Conference in the Pacific Division this regular season against the Edmonton Oilers (22-16-7) on the road in the back end of back-to-back games on Saturday night (Jan. 10).

Alex Laferriere scores the eventual game-tying goal in a shootout win for the Los Angeles Kings over the Edmonton Oilers in the Pacific Division

Yesterday's game on the road north of the border in Canada in Alberta against the Oilers in Edmonton was a high-stakes contest that the Kings showed plenty of intensity and effort on the ice in the Pacific Division. The Kings got a big 4-3 shootout win over the Oilers on the road at Rogers Place, despite missing multiple key veteran forwards in the active roster lineup yesterday.

The Kings were able to hold superstar forwards Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid at bey for most of the game yesterday, including on special teams on the penalty kill on the road.

In overtime and the shootout yesterday, the Kings got a clutch performance from goalie Anton Forsberg in net, stopping multiple scoring chances and all five shots on goal in overtime from the Oilers on the road in Edmonton. Forward Adrian Kempe delivered the game-winning goal in the shootout to get the win and two points in the standings in the Pacific Division vs. Edmonton by a score of 4-3.

Here are two studs, and one dud from the Kings' big 4-3 shootout win on the road in the back end of back-to-back games vs. the Oilers in Edmonton on Jan. 10.

Early in the final frame in the third period yesterday on the road, the Kings were looking to get more momentum on the ice and on the scoreboard vs. Edmonton in clutch time in the Pacific Division. The Kings got the first lead of the game on the scoreboard early in the third period in the final frame yesterday on a nice goal by forward Alex Laferriere in clutch time on a tip-in goal in front of Connor Ingram for the Oilers in the zone.

Laferriere's goal was deflected on a shot from the point by defenseman Brandt Clarke early in the final frame in the third period vs. Edmonton.

After Laferriere's goal gave the Kings the first lead for the team in yesterday's game in the final frame, Edmonton responded with a goal on a special teams opportunity on the 5-on-3 man advantage for the Kings' penalty kill.

But the Kings rallied in overtime to get the win over the Oilers in the Pacific Division and picked up two valuable points in the standings in the West this weekend on Saturday.

"That was a huge character win for us, couple huge guys out of our lineup, tough game last night, and then come in here into a barn that’s pretty hard to win in and play like that. It was a great game, and I mean we don’t win that game without Forsberg too. I thought he played unbelievable, stood on his head for us there, and gave us a chance to win it in the end."
Alex Laferriere

After yesterday's game, Laferriere became the only forward on the Kings with double-digit goals, double-digit assists this regular season in the West, and over 75 faceoff wins.
