Trumping all of the relevant free agency news regarding Ilya Kovalchuk, and the plethora of other contract agreements (including the signing Jaroslav Halak by St. louis), Bob Probert has passed away yesterday. Reports have him dying after suffering from chest pain, so the belief is that it was a result of heart issues. He was 45 years old, and died while boating. it’s a sad day for hockey when they lose an icon of the game. While he was never a superstar, and there were quite a few players that surpassed his statistical achievements, he was a big name, and a big fighter for many years.
Probert tallied 162 goal, 221 assists for 384 points to go along with his impressive 3,300 PIMs over the course of 935 games. He spent time with the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks from 1985 through 2002. The guy was a fighter, and it’s only fitting to remember him by a look at some of his impressive bouts.
