The Kings won their sixth straight game Tuesday night, defeating the Wild at home. Their captain has been a huge reason to the team’s success in 2017.
After what seemed like months of excruciating headaches and heartbreaks, the Kings are finally doing what they do best. the victory over Minnesota on Tuesday night marked their sixth win in a row and they remain undefeated in December. As noted last week, December is shaping up to be a fairly easier schedule for Los Angeles based on their opponents. Nonetheless, these wins have truly been dominant.
In this six game stretch, the Kings are outscoring opponents by a margin of 21 to just 7. Part of that is thanks to the strong defensive play of the Kings and their star goalies, but the offense is firing. In fact since November 28th, the Kings are first in the league in goals scored as well as ninth in the league in shots taken. So they are truly making the most out of every opportunity they get.
Anze Kopitar has seen a revitalization this year, and it is really rubbing off on the team. The captain has come to life over this winning stretch, scoring 5 goals and netting 4 assists. Him and Drew Doughty are also tied for the best +/- in the league during that time.

As of this post, Kopitar is fifth in the NHL with 15 goals on the year. That would put him just a few goals behind some of the most elite scorers in the league. He also ranks in the top twenty players in the league with 19 assists on the year. Through just 29 games played, Kopitar has already eclipsed his goal totals form the prior season. Last year, Kopitar was able to score only 12 goals through his 76 games played. He also appears well on his way to breaking his single season assist record, on pace for over 50 assists.
Kopitar has led his team to several straight wins, and December looks like it should bring plenty more. If he can keep this up, the Kings will skate into the playoff picture with ease.
