Now I only have the liberty of my imagination when it comes to live Los Angeles Kings 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs due to only being able to listen to it on the radio with such an intense work, school, and volunteer schedule and no cable television. (No I am not searching for brownie points) However, there is so much speculation to the trifecta of hits deemed out in last night’s Game 2 in the driest place in America, Glendale, AZ.

The video review I, as a “writer,” am privileged to see via NHL.com (public eyes only) adds to the frustration as an NHL fan, in general, to Brendan Shanahan’s selective competency when it comes to clean/unclean hits.

Let’s briefly review two videos. One hit and Mike Smith’s pout-n-tickle of Dustin Brown’s seismic right leg:

the hit.

Notice the complete disregard for the play itself by Derek Morris after Scuderi passed it to Justin Williams? Yea me too… Shanahan didn’t…

the tickle.

I understand I am young, but I remember the days when players willingly looked to engage in the possibility of face-spelunking (pummeling each others faces in to chasms) at the hands of their opponent. However, player safety is tantamount to negligent displays of aggression. You can’t let players get away with things because, like children, they will continue to push the envelope.

Anyways that’s my brief rant on the subject. I hope a huge, clean, legal hit reigns down on a Coyotes players tomorrow at the Stape. With all the good sportsmanship and puppy dogs, and sugar-sticks to follow.

… or not.

JONATHAN QUICK

THE MODERATOR: Questions for Jonathan.

Q. There was a period of time there early in the second period where

you had to make several back-to-back stops. The game is still 1-0 at that

point. You get the goal. How important is that sequence for your game?

JONATHAN QUICK: Obviously I wanted to get off to a better start than

I did last game there. You know, in order to win on the road, you need

your goalie to make a few saves.

For the most part we did a great job of keeping a lot of the chances

to the outside, clearing out rebounds and stuff like that. When they

needed me, I was able to make the save.

Q. Early in the game, fans were yelling, Shoot, when Morris got

close. Did you hear that?

JONATHAN QUICK: No.

Q. Coach Tippett said his team looked a little bit better in the

start of the first period, a little more energy than in Game 1. Did you

see it that way?

JONATHAN QUICK: They certainly created a couple more chances than

they did Game 1 first period. That’s the way the game works sometimes. We

outplayed them Game 1, leave the period tied.

Today it was a little more evenly played. You leave the first period

with a 1-0 lead, it’s the way it happens sometimes.

Q. Do you think you got under their skin?

JONATHAN QUICK: You know what, that’s part of the game, time of the

year. There’s going to be some chippy stuff going on. It’s going to

happen both ways. It’s just part of the game.

I don’t think we got under their skin or anything like that. These

guys won two rounds. You don’t win two rounds this time of year being able

to get rattled easily.

We know what to expect here coming into Game 3. We know they’re

going to bring their best. That’s all we’re looking at right now.

THE MODERATOR: Thanks, Jonathan.

The Kings are like fleas on the Coyotes back. The more you scratch at them the more vicious they will attack your surface until you’re reduced to pulsating welts of puss and scabs, yearning for the situation at hand to end sooner rather than later.
