Los Angeles Kings fans are in a dilemma. Tonight, the San Jose Sharks face-off against the Anaheim Ducks in a game that could determine the Pacific Division. If Anaheim wins, the division title, it is theirs. If San Jose wins, they need to make a push in their last two games and hope the Ducks stumble in their final two to win. Either way, the winner of the Pacific Division will be crown ed within the next few days, which will set the brackets for the first round of the playoffs.
Right now Anaheim has three points on San Jose and their final two games are against the Colorado Avalanche and the Kings. San Jose then face Colorado and the Phoenix Coyotes.
Kings fans do not normally care about either, especially when a team that is not them is winning something significant, but this situation, does more than declare the Pacific champ, it also sets up the playoffs, as stated before. If Anaheim wins the division, they face a still-to-be-determined wildcard team. That will put San Jose and Los Angeles in a first round match up.
If San Jose somehow manages to pull out the division title, that pits Anaheim and Los Angeles in the playoffs for the first time… EVER!!! Both Kings and Ducks fans have been waiting for this for a long time.
So here is the dilemma, it makes it really hard for Kings’ fans to root for either team, but does one hope for a Shark’s division title, or do Kings fans root for Anaheim? If rooting for Anaheim or San Jose would help them win, who would you root for?
The correct answer is neither. Both are state and division rivals and rooting for either is blasphemy. If it is not the Kings winning something, it is not worth the time. The Kings have bigger fish (or duck) to fry and that will happen in the upcoming playoffs. There is only one goal for the Kings and it is not the Pacific Division Championship. It is Lord Stanley’s Cup!
But if one would have to choose, I personally would want “Anaheim to lose so they face the Kings in the first round and do get destroyed in four games”.
Go Kings Go.
