The Phoenix Coyotes are in town for their fifth and final game of their season series against the Los Angeles Kings. The Coyotes have had success against the Kings this season going 3-1-0 against the Kings. The Kings only win of the season against the Coyotes came way back in October when the two teams met for the first time of the season.
A lot has happened since that first meeting and both teams find themselves in very different situations. The Kings currently sit in third place in the Pacific Division and are all but locked into that spot for the post season. The Coyotes on the other hand are in a dog fight with the Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild for one of the two wild card spots.
With a regulation win tonight against the Coyotes the Kings can officially clinch a spot in the post season.
Going into tonight’s game the Kings will be looking to rebound from a 3-2 lose to the Minnesota Wild. The Kings let two point get away in a game they lead 2-1 going into the final twenty minutes of play. The Wild came out swinging in the third and scored two goals just over a minute apart and never looked back.
The Coyotes are coming into the game following a 2-1 shootout loss to the Winnipeg Jets.
If the Kings want to carry over the success they say in March and start off April on the right foot they will need the continued production of Alec Martinez. Martinez was on fire during the month of March scoring 7-goals and recording 12-points in 15-games.
The Kings may benefit from the Coyotes being fatigued and being on the back end of back-to-back set of games. However the Coyotes have faired pretty decently in the second game of back-to-back scenarios going 4-2-1 this season.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
