The Los Angeles Kings are in the midst of a bipolar season that includes elating win streaks, soul-crushing losing streaks, horrible home losses and confounding road wins. It is all part of LA’s plan en route to the playoffs. Part of that plan is getting LA ready to do battle on the road. That is good news in regards to the playoffs.
Just after the winter Olympics, the Kings went on a seven-game win streak. They followed that up with three horrible losses at home. Currently, LA is riding a four-game win streak, the last three of those on the road. Up next are the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday. For the most part, they are winning more than they are losing, and their current trend has them victorious on the road. That is important because of what they did two years ago to get Lord Stanley’s Cup.
Back in 2012 in the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Kings were the 8th seed and started each round of the playoffs on the road. In every round Kings won the first two games. They would return to Staples Center for game three in every series, already up two games to zero. Now if that is not master mind planning, then I do not know what is. You can thank Head Coach Darryl Sutter for that.
If the playoffs started right now, LA would claim the 6th seed.
Let’s say the Kings make it to the Western Conference Finals, barring a miracle from 8th seed Phoenix, LA would start every round on the road. Do you see what I’m getting at Kings fans?
The Kings are in a spot that is familiar spot, mainly because General Manager Dean Lombardi knows exactly what this team is built for.
The Kings Were Built For The Playoffs!
There is a reason the Los Angeles Kings have more Stanley Cup banners than Pacific Division banners since the 1993 realignment. The Kings, especially in recent seasons, pace themselves during the season. But during the playoffs, they are a different beast all together. Despite falling to Chicago last year, Los Angeles had a very good run to the Western Conference Finals. The proof is there, people!
The point is that the Kings are peaking at just the right time. The Kings had back-to-back road games, against playoff bound teams, Philadelphia and Washington. and came out with two phenomenal victories. It is impressive, but it is now all preparation. LA is playoff ready. Are you, NHL?
