MATCHUP HISTORY

This is the first time the teams have met in over 2 calendar years.  The last time Los Angeles skated away with a 5-2 win.  They will meet again next week in Washington.

LAST GAMES

The Kings dropped their third straight decision, all at home, 4-3 to the Phoenix Coyotes on Monday night.  Washington started off their 3 game California road trip by defeating Anaheim 3-2 on Tuesday.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Alex Ovechkin, WAS – Ovechkin leads the NHL with 46 goals and could be the only one to reach 50 this season, a total he has reached 4 times previous, but not since 2009-10. (Although his 32 in 48 games last season would have been on a 50 goal plus pace.)

Slava Voynov, LAK – One of the Kings’ most dependable defensemen hasn’t scored a goal since November 14th, a span of 50 games.  With the Kings as starved for offense as they are, they need goals from more of their blueliners.

TOP 3 STORYLINES FOR THE GAME

1. Third Time’s A Charm – This will be Jonathan Quick‘s third attempt to tie Rogie Vachon‘s franchise record for most career wins.  He has lost his last 2 decisions giving up 3 and 4 goals to Toronto and Phoenix respectively.

2.  Sutter’s 500th – This will also be the 4th attempt for coach Darryl Sutter‘s milestone win behind an NHL bench.

3.  End The Skid – The Kings have lost 3 in a row at home, and Phoenix has drawn within 5 points of them for third in the Pacific.  Its not time for concern quite yet, but another loss combined with a Phoenix win over Florida tonight would make for some nervous Kings fans.
