That situation is laughable, because Toffoli is making his mark on the Kings and is a future 35-40 goal scorer. To deal a prospect of that level for what could amount to a rental is just too steep a price to pay and wishful thinking from the Sabres part.
Moulson would help the Kings down the stretch and into the playoffs, but so will Toffoli. Buffalo, with a brand new rookie GM is obviously trying to hit a home run with their assets and speed up the rebuild, but if they aren’t going to get a top end prospect (and current roster player) from the Kings for him.
The Kings need to get something done to keep in the race for in the rough and tumble Western Conference, but they can’t afford to mortgage the future in order to do so. The upgrade from Toffoli to Moulson isn’t that great that they can risk making the deal and then losing Moulson as a UFA in the summer. Toffoli is a 21 year old kid with tons of upside and a key to the future of the Kings.
