Ah, it’s October. That means the weather is changing, the trees will start to change colors, and people are beginning to shift into holiday mode. But most importantly it means hockey is back! The ’13-’14 regular season kicked off last night with three games, and hockey fans can’t wait for the season to kick into full gear.
Kings fans will have to wait just one more day until the team they want to hit the ice gets their season started. But until then let’s take a look at the month of October and what it will bring for the Kings.
Overall, the Kings will play 14 games over the course of October. The month is spilt down the middle with seven games on the road and seven games at home. The Kings will be on the road from October 11th through October 17th for four games and their longest road trip of the month.
Here are some games to highlight on your calendar.
October 3rd, @ Minnesota Wild
This is the starting line. It is the Kings first game of the season and their first step towards regaining that title of Stanley Cup Champions. It will also be the Wild’s first game of the season, so both team will be looking to get their season started off right. Let’s see who gets out of the gate with a jump and who stumbles and the horn.
October 7th, vs. New York Rangers
Much like the game in Minnesota, this game will be a first for the Kings and their fans. This will be the first game in Los Angeles and in front of the Kings’ faithful. It will be the Kings third game of the season so they should be past that first game rust stage and raring to go in front of their home town fans. The Rangers will be coming off of four days of rest so both teams should be ready to go for this tilt.
October 30th, vs. San Jose Sharks
The last day of the month brings our rivals from them north to SoCal for the Kings’ first meeting of the season. This is the Kings 14th and final game of the month. So this game between division rivals could carry a significant amount of weight for both teams depending on how the month of October goes for each team.
