The time separating us from hockey is slowly dwindling down and as if that isn’t reason enough to get you excited, the Kings will be welcoming back Willie Mitchell when their training camp kicks off .

This was tweeted out a couple of days ago by the Mayor, and that has to get Kings fans excited and feeling a little more optimistic about the Kings going into next season. However, since going down with his knee injury, things did not look promising for Mitchell at times. When Dean Lombardi signed Robyn Regehr to a 2-year contract extension many thought that could be a sign that it would be some time before Mitchell was back in the Kings’ line-up if he was able to return at all.
Then came summer and the departure of Rob Scuderi, which sent many Kings faithful into panic with the thoughts that the Kings could go into next season with a defensive core that lost Scuderi and was still short Mitchell.
Now things are looking up for the Kings and their defencemen, with Mitchell looking like he is ready to return, the Kings look set to boast one of the strongest defensive corps in the NHL.
However, the question now is whether or not Mitchell will be able to hold up for the long-haul of an 82-game season. Hopefully that knee has healed up nice and strong because if Mitchell goes down it could put the Kings between a rock and a hard place.
