Hockey Canada announced the 47 players that have been invited to Canada’s Olympic Orientation Camp that will take place in Calgary from August 25-28.
There will be five goalies, 17 defensemen and 25 forwards attending the camp. Among them will be Kings forwards Mike Richards and Jeff Carter and Kings defenseman Drew Doughty.
The Hockey Canada staff includes Mike Babcock who will be the team’s head coach once again, he will be joined by Ken Hitchcock, Lindy Ruff and Claude Julien. A pretty elite class of NHL head coaches.
In order for Richards, Carter and Doughty to make the final 23-man roster they will have to beat out some of the most talented players in the world.
Some of the notable forwards attending the camp include Sidney Crosby, of course, Claude Giroux, Patrice Bergeron, and Steven Stamkos. On the blue line, invitees include P.K. Subban, Kris Letang and Shea Weber.
I would say all three Kings in this scenario have a pretty solid shot at making the final roster. However, Richards and Carter likely will have a lower chance at making it because of all the talent that Canada has at forward. Doughty on the other hand should make the final cut no problem.
