Earlier today USA Hockey announced the 48 players that have been invited to the U.S. Men’s National Team Olympic Orientation Camp that will take place from August 26-27.
Team USA will be led by Pittsburgh Penguins head coach, Dan Bylsma and will be ran by Ray Shero, Brian Burke and Jim Johannson.
There will be three players representing the Kings while at the camp. Kings captain Dustin Brown and goalie Jonathan Quick will both fight it out for a chance to represent the Unites States at a second straight Olympic Games. While Trevor Lewis will be in attendance hoping to represent the United States for the first time in his career, since 2007 when he played in the World Junior Championships.
Including the Kings that have been invited there is total of six goaltenders, 18 defenseman and 24 forwards that have been invited to attend the camp.
In order to make the final roster Brown and Lewis will have to beat out the likes of Patrick Kane, Ryan Callahan, Bobby Ryan and Paul Stastny. In net Quick will have to out duel, Cory Schneider, Jimmy Howard, Ryan Miller and Craig Anderson.
The surprise invitee of this group has to be Lewis. However, with his speed and work ethic it would not surprise me if he gets more than a little consideration for the final roster. Brown and Quick on the other hand should be locks. Quick should get the stating job and Brown should get a captain slot.
