Plenty of news came out of the Kings’ offices yesterday. First it was officially announced that former King, Rob Blake would be stepping in and filling in Ron Hextall’s old spot as the Kings Assistant General Manager. This announcement caused some backlash because of that whole leaving the Kings for the Sharks thing. Speaking of that, later today we will have a poll up on the site where you can vote and weigh in on the Blake appointment.
Later in the day, the Kings announced they had signed Kings captain, Dustin Brown to an eight-year contract extension, locking him up through the 2021-2022 season. Brown’s contract comes with a very respectable $5.875 million cap hit. Check in later for Rink Royalty’s thoughts on Brown and his extension.
Outside of the Kings, the 2013-2014 NHL schedule was not released for another day. Whether or not the NHL will be apart of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games is holding up the schedule becoming official and released to the public.
