Rob Blake, when you hear the name lots comes to mind, Los Angeles Kings, Norris Trophy, Stanley Cup, Colorado Avalanche, two-time Olympic gold medalist, San Jose Sharks and much more can be associated with Blake. As of yesterday, you can officially add Assistant General Manager to that list of word associations.
However, since it was leaked that Blake would be taking over for Ron Hextall the idea of Blake stepping in has received some backlash from the Kings community. This backlash was pushed even more into the forefront when the appointment became official yesterday.
What most Kings fans are upset about is the point in Blake’s career where he played for the Kings, towards the end of his career. But, rather than play out his remaining days with the Kings and retire a King and a part of the organization that drafted him in 1988, he went and played elsewhere.
You know what, that happens sometimes, but what really stuck the knife in the backs of so many Kings fans was that Blake went to the Sharks. Blake went on to play two seasons for the Sharks and retired as their captain. Not the Kings’ captain.
So, I guess you can see when Blake suddenly shows up again and bursts back into the Kings’ front office why some Kings fans would be upset.
There is a pretty in-depth quote from Dean Lombardi talking to the Mayor here, going over why Blake had to do what he did.
Others may have their reasons outside of that ordeal as to why they don’t like the situation and we at Rink Royalty would love to hear why you don’t agree with Blake coming in and taking over where Hextall left off. You can let us know why in the comment section below or on our Twitter or Facebook page.
So what do you say Kings fans? Do you like the fact that Rob Blake got appointed the Kings new Assistant General Manager, or do you not agree with it?
