Previewing the Los Angeles Kings’ 2012-13 season:
Game 43 @ San Jose, April 16, 2013, 7:30pm PST (10:30pm EST)
It is the penultimate meeting this season between the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks in what is already looking like a very possible first-round playoff matchup. The Pacific rivals meet Tuesday at the HP Pavilionwith both teams trying to strengthen their respective positions for the post-season.
Winners of their last two, the fourth-place Kings look to make it three-straight and extend their lead to five points over the fifth-place Sharks who are coming off a Saturday night loss in Dallas.
While they still have an outside shot of winning their division, Los Angeles is seven points back of the Pacific-leading Anaheim Ducks and while a late-season chase would make for quite a story, the Kings are more concerned with playing the best hockey they can so they can enter the playoffs with a great sense of momentum.
The last time these two clubs meet, it was a home-and-home series with each team winning in front of their home fans.
On March 14 in San Jose, the Sharks were very effective on the power play scoring twice en route to a 4-3 win. Los Angeles, however, got their revenge two nights later, defeating San Jose by a 5-2 score at Staples Center.
Drew Doughty has been hot scoring in four of his last five games after an auspiciously slow start to the season and the Kings hope to get more of the same from Number 8 on Tuesday.
It may be a preview of what to see a few weeks from now but for now, it’s a tale of two teams jockeying for position while renewing their all-too-hostile rivalry along the way.
Enjoy the game!
