Previewing the Los Angeles Kings’ 2012-13 season:
Game 40 @ Dallas, April 9, 2013, 5:30pm PST (8:30pm EST)
Hoping to rebound from their shootout loss in Anaheim on Sunday, the Los Angeles Kings travel to Big D to take on the Dallas Starsfor the fourth of five meetings between the two clubs. After losing their first two decisions to the Stars, the Kings won the last meeting (in Dallas) by a score of 3-2 on March 31 and hope to even the season series on Tuesday night.
At 18-17-3, the Dallas Stars are three points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the West as of Monday night and a win against the Kings will surely help their cause especially when Kari Lehtonen, who has been great against Los Angeles all season, will be (most likely) starting. Dallas has won two-straight game but some good news for the Kings is that the one player who had caused them the most trouble during these meetings has since been traded as Jaromir Jagr is now a member of the Boston Bruins.
The Stars may have parted ways with Jagr, Brenden Morrow and Derek Roy but are still a formidable opponent regardless with guys like Jamie Benn (who scored against the Kings last game) and youngsters like Alex Chiasson who scored three goals in his last three games. While he’s a newcomer, the Kings should keep an eye out for this guy. Another player the Kings need to contain is Erik Nystrom who has scored in each of Dallas’ most recent victories.
With that said, the Stars will have their hands full as well as they must try to contain Jeff Carter who has five goals in his past six games including a tally in Dallas back on March 31. Drew Doughty is another weapon Dallas needs to slow down as after an auspiciously slow start, the defenseman has scored in each of his last two games.
With 48 points, the 22-13-4 Kings look to continue their drive to clinch a playoff spot. They currently sit in fourth in the West two points ahead of San Jose and Minnesota. The Kings may like where they are but they are certainly not satisfied.
We’ll have to see if they can get back on the winning track and extend their point streak to four games.
Enjoy the game!
