Los Angeles Kings vs. Calgary Flames Preview

Previewing the Los Angeles Kings’ 2012-13 season:
Game 24 vs. Calgary, March 11, 2013, 7:30pm PST (10:30pm EST)

The Los Angeles Kings and Calgary Flames are back at it again on Monday night in the third and final meeting of the season. While the Kings look to sweep the season series and make it eight wins in their last nine games at home, the Flames simply want to end their mini two-game slide and gain some traction on the wild playoff race in the West.

As far as changes go, both teams will remain relatively status quo but we will likely be seeing the NHL debut of Tyler Toffoli who the Kings called up from the AHL on Sunday. With 28 goals and 20 assists in 55 games for the Manchester Monarchs this season, Toffoli is currently second in AHL scoring and the Kings are thinking that there’s no time for the present to see how the 20-year-old fares with the big club.

As great as the news is, it’s making most wonder whose place Toffoli will take. After suffering a hit on Saturday night, Mike Richards had to leave the game. While he did return, there is reason to believe that the Kings forward has a concussion – but there is no confirmation as of yet so as far as I can see, Richards will be a game-time decision for Monday night.

While Miikka Kiprusoff did get pulled on Saturday night after allowing six goals, don’t be surprised to see him back between the pipes for Calgary. The same should be said for Jonathan Quick. After all, the eight total goals that were scored were the results of great offensive plays and not goaltending gaffes.

The Kings hope to finish off their current homestand on a winning note and they are as confident as ever that they can do just that. We’ll see if they can.

Enjoy the game!
