The Kings’ AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs, had a successful 2-0 first week to start their campaign. On their two-game road trip last weekend, the Monarchs won a 3-1 contest in Providence, then came back the next night in Albany to beat the Devils’ affiliate 2-1.
Defensemen Jake Muzzin leads the team in scoring; he tallied three assists on the road trip. Interestingly, fellow defensemen David Kolomatis paces the team in goals with two; he notched both tallies in his only game of the year in Albany. In goal, first-stringer Martin Jones started both games and only allowed two goals on 53 total shots, good for a .962 SV%.
For those keeping track of Kings players in the minors, only Andrei Loktionov has recorded a point (one goal), while Jordan Nolan and Slava Voynov have been kept off the scoresheet so far.
After week one, Manchester is tied for first place in the Eastern Conference at 2-0 with four other teams. The Monarchs have their home opener tonight at the Verizon Center in Manchester, where they will square off against the Providence Bruins again. The weekend homestand will continue Saturday when the Portland Pirates come to New Hampshire.
