For the second straight game, the Los Angeles Kings go up against a divisional opponent. Tonight, the Kings face the Dallas Stars in, what we would have considered (prior to the Stars starting the season 6-1-0 and being tied for the league lead in points) a minor test. However, someone forgot to tell the Stars that… well, they’re the Stars! They’re not supposed to be this good without Brad Richards. Or are they? Loui Eriksson lit up the Anaheim Ducks last night for two goals and an assist and Mike Ribeiro, who is always a pest, added a goal in the Stars 3-1 win. The Kings are not the Ducks and goalie Jonathan Quick is looking to extend his two game shutout streak. Teams are struggling, like the Kings trying to get out of the first round of the playoffs, to get pucks past this guy. For a great read on Jonathan Quick, check out Katey Berman’s recent post. I couldn’t have said it better! Anze Kopitar has 10 points in the young season and is finally getting some well deserved recognition around the NHL.
Kari Lehtonen figures to get the start for the Stars tonight. Hopefully this dude is tired, has a hangover, the flu, SOMETHING! He’s been in goal for all six of the games the Stars have won, he’s 3rd in the league in save percentage and goals against and has had one hell of a stretch of games. He appears to have one small flaw though as the stats show that his weakness is goals against, where he comes in at 20th in the league. The Kings can score some goals and there’s one player, in particular, who needs to get on the board in the very near future before the fans completely meltdown on him. Paging Dustin Penner! You’ve played “human wrecking ball”, stuck up for the $56 million dollar man, even had a great assist against the Blues. The one thing that’s lacking; a goal! Going up against a goalie that’s 20th in the league in goals against, this is a prime opportunity to get on the board in the goals column. We all saw, in the game against the Phoenix Coyotes, Mike Richards is trying to get this guy going. If anyone can do it, he’s the man.
One thing’s for certain, four point swing games are just as crucial in October as they are in April and tonight figures to be a good one.
Oh, and if you have a few minutes before the game, you can get pumped up by watching this Kings Comeback.
Well, whether or not you’re attending, enjoy the game and we’ll see you on Twitter!
