Well, the road trip started off with a bang. Hopefully, the Kings aren’t high on their recent achievement, as they’ve fallen back into that familiar, panicky eighth spot in the Western Conference. Nothing more frustrating than the one step forward, one step back routine. Especially against teams such as Columbus, which ended the Kings’ eight-game winning streak at home (remember that start?).
The Kings have won five of the last six against the Blue Jackets, outscoring Columbus 28-15. Kings goalie Jonathan Quick has been the goalie against the Blue Jackets in that time. Jonathan Bernier has never played against Columbus (31-26-9), which is in the midst of a six-game losing streak that has mortally wounded the Blue Jackets’ playoff chances.
Kevin Westgarth gets the nod over Brad Richardson on the fourth line’s right side, next to Kyle Clifford and Trevor Lewis. Terry Murray must be expecting something rough other than the weather in cold Columbus.
In the meantime, check out Nicholas Cotsonika’s short write-up on Kings’ defenseman Willie Mitchell, who is considering donating his brain to science in the wake of medical studies conducted on late enforcer Bob Probert:
[Mitchell] speaks often and openly about his experience with concussions – how he couldn’t hold a conversation, how he couldn’t handle bright lights, how he couldn’t drive a car, how he doesn’t wish that upon anyone.
“It’s just, you don’t feel normal,” Mitchell said. “You don’t feel right. You’re sick. You’re sick, right? You get a little snippet into life of feeling like you have a terminal illness. Not the physical aspect, the emotional aspect of it, too. I know what I went through.
“I could hate you. You could have done something to me, it’s the worst thing in the world, but I’d never want you to go through what I went through or what those other guys are going through. It’s not fun.”
